Principal's Message

2017-2018 School Year

Eastin Families,

Welcome to the opening of what promises to be a wonderful school year. At this time of the year, there is great anticipation of what is to come. I am honored to have the opportunity to be the Principal of Eastin and to be part of this wonderful community. The staff, faculty, and administration are honored that you entrust us with your precious little ones. The hours that your children are with us each day are so important as they grow and develop into 21st century learners. We are ready to begin the 2017-2018 school year. The teachers have put a lot of time and energy getting ready for your child this year. I was impressed to see the dedication of our staff. We look forward to sharing the new teaching and learning alongside the data that drives our instruction to ensure your child has the best possible learning.

Allison Sayavong, our Assistant Principal
the 2016-17 school year has chosen to return to teaching. She will enjoy a 3rd grade class at Emmanuel Elementary this coming year. We know change can be tough, but also good for us as we learn and discover what we are truly needing.  I have much respect for Allison and her decision and know that she has made a decision that makes her happy.
In moving forward, interviews were held for a new AP over the summer.  Six candidates were interviewed and Teresa Malone was selected.
Mrs. Malone is no stranger to Eastin as she has served as NHUSD's Personalization Program Specialist.  She has walked classrooms on site this year and held workshops at the personalization summit this summer, where many Eastin teachers attended. Mrs. Malone has most recently worked at Pioneer Elementary with a team of early adopters on the road towards personalization. In her history, she brings a background rooted in middle school teaching.  I believe the broader we cast our net, the more we capture for our students. She brings a perspective to Eastin that will support the unique needs of our students.  Her gifts of knowledge answer many of our questions in regards to our next steps in teaching.
Thank you in advance for welcoming Mrs. Teresa Malone into the Eastin family...
She will send a letter early in the school year to introduce herself and share more of her background so that you can begin to get to know her better.

Class lists will be ready to view on Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at 5:00 p.m. They will be posted on the windows of the front office.

A few things to help make our year go more smoothly – first, please help us to be good neighbors. The traffic flow around the school is counterclockwise; the passenger door always opens to the curb for safety reasons. Make sure to park legally and be aware of blocking driveways. Please do not park in the drop off lane. If you need to drop your child off at Kids First or visit the office, please park your car in a parking spot prior to entering the building. And, as tempting as it might be to bring your dog up to school, pets are to remain off campus. If you must bring your dog up to campus for some reason, please keep him/her on a leash across the street. Be considerate of children and adults who may have allergies and/or who might be uncomfortable around animals.

Finally, school begins at 8:00 a.m. and ends at 2:05 p.m., everyday, for grades 1-5.  If your child is in Kindergarten, they go to school from 8:00 a.m. to 11:20 a.m. Starting Monday, October 2, 2017, Kindergarten's daily schedule is from 8:00 a.m. until 2:05 p.m.

You set your child up for success by getting him/her to school on time, ready to learn. Together, Eastin staff, teachers, students, and families make a strong Eastin community. We appreciate your support as your child enters the classroom, learns, and grows through the year. Let’s all commit to have a good school year, setting everyone, (students as well as teachers) up for success. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call. I look forward to working with you and your child throughout the school year to provide a productive and safe learning environment that supports student success.

Sincerely, Carla Victor, Principal
